Toru Maruyama, PH.D.

Toru Maruyama was appointed as an Officer of the ONO Pharma Foundation in January 2022. His main focus is to support and accelerate groundbreaking and transformative science that can positively impact human health, as well as therapeutic approaches to disease and pain management.

Prior to assuming this role, he had accumulated 30 years of experience in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery research, where he successfully led the discovery of a dozen clinical candidates. Additionally, he has served on the executive committees of various conferences and forums. He is an author and co-author of 26 peer-reviewed papers and 3 review articles, an inventor of 11 patents, and has been invited to speak at 9 lectures. He obtained his Ph.D. in chemistry from Nagoya University (Prof. H. Yamamoto) in 2002.
